LaiFa is a durian brand from a small hill town in Malacca, founded by the father of current second-generation successor Mr. Ray Chan. In the beginning, LaiFa was just a small roadside stall. Ray Chan’s father worked from sunrise to sunset, traveling tirelessly between the durian orchard and the stall. His careful tending of the orchard and deep knowledge of every variety planted a seed in young Ray Chan’s heart. During school holidays, as the eldest son, Ray Chan stayed in the orchard with his father to take better care of the trees. He still remembers the fragrance of durian filling the room and sunlight filtering through the leaves, listening to his father’s guidance in his arms. Over time, like a seed, he absorbed the best nutrients and vowed to grow his father’s small stall into a brand more people would know.
Years later, after several twists and turns, Ray Chan decided to inherit his father’s legacy and became the second-generation leader of LaiFa. He boldly transformed the brand so it would no longer be limited to a small stall. Beyond selling durians known for quality and reputation, he explored durian’s broader possibilities. His relentless effort led to a series of processed durian products, among which the durian puree ice bars became widely talked about and exported to many countries such as Singapore, Mainland China, Hong Kong and Macau, the United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, and the Philippines. With rigorous standards and care for product quality, LaiFa shined on the international stage and became the first local brand to break into the global ice cream track.
Today, the durian business map of LaiFa continues to expand. Under Ray Chan’s leadership, two durian-themed restaurants with Nyonya-inspired decor opened in 2025 in Malacca and Kuala Lumpur’s Kwai Chai Hong. The flagship store in Malacca earned the support of the Governor, who presided over the opening ceremony. The event drew great attention; the nine-grid dessert created for the Governor was highly praised and later became a star item at LaiFa’s durian-themed restaurants.
Under Ray Chan’s outstanding leadership, LaiFa has shed its youthful beginnings. With a stronger team and brand philosophy, it faces different challenges with innovation and original dedication, steadfastly embracing every opportunity.
